Bringing the only LGBTQ+ Day to the Houston Rodeo

Event Roundup

It’s time for the LGBT community of Houston
to be Out At The Rodeo!

Since 1931, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been a hallmark of the city, bringing families together for food, fun, and entertainment. As the world’s largest live event and livestock exhibition, it raises millions for education and attracts millions of spectators each year.

Houston, the 4th largest U.S. city, is also home to a vibrant LGBTQ+ community, which has made its own mark with events like Pride, drawing over 700,000 attendees.

Out at the Rodeo (OATR), founded in 2015, aims to bring both of these communities together by inviting under-represented communities to join in the fun. For Houston’s LGBTQ+ community, having a presence at the rodeo is more than just an event—it’s a declaration of belonging, a celebration of pride and a bold step forward in making sure everyone has a voice in our shared cultural fabric.

President Eric Hulsey on the future of the event:

“We’re making this happen. We’re making a day happen, and we’re hoping that over time, this will build and grow and make a bigger community within the rodeo itself.”
